Last Weeks Walks

Once again the weather was kind and all three walks went ahead as scheduled.  On Wednesday 57 walkers (14PP, 25SS & 18FF) were out and about in Plimmerton.  On Thursday evening 7 walkers took to the streets and tracks in Churton Park.  The Friday walkers were in Upper Hutt where 21 walkers went into the hills above Totara Park, into the Akatarawa Forest Park and on the Birchville Dam.

Reminder

Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.

This Weeks Walks (Wednesday 18 October)

The three walks this week are based in Johnsonville.  The walks are all new walks but maybe similar to ones carried out in the past.  We still can’t access our database of previous walks as NZmapometer is still down for maintenance.  Because of this we have had to prepare the walks in “PlotaRoute" and the links in the newsletter will take you to the maps on “PlotaRoute”.  For those who use the GPX files, these can also be found using the same Plotaroute link.

PP’s: A 4.0km walk that takes in the streets of Johnsonville.  There are some minor hills but is a much gentler walk than you would get taking a walk around the streets of Churton Park!   You can see the walk here.

SS’s: A 5.3km loop heading into the foothills of Mt Kaukau and returning via tracks and streets back to the carpark.  You can see the walk here.

FF’s: A 6.5km loop walk that also heads into the foothills of Mt Kaukau using both the tracks and the roads.  You can see the walk here.

Parking

The Alex Moore Park carpark has plenty of spaces for all the walkers vehicles and can be accessed off Bannister Avenue.

Coffee

We will have told Simmer that a good number of us will be calling for coffee.  They generally reserve an area for us outside so keep your jacket with you.

Website

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Photos

Below here are the photos from last week.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi.  Preferably small size (around 450kb).
