Last Weeks Walks

Brian has headed off overseas for a few weeks leaving others to complete his report.

Wednesday’s walk was cancelled so no news about that.  We understand that there were 5 Thursday Walkers out doing a local walk and probably Red as well.  12 Friday Walkers climbed the service road to the top of Mt Climie which still had a sprinkling of snow on the ground.  So not a lot of active walkers this past week but on the social side a very good attendance at our 10th Anniversay Dinner.  We trust all the 68 that went enjoyed their night.  “Friday Drinkies” which is held on the first Friday of the month also had a reasonable turn out of just over 20.

So lets hope the weather is kinder to us for this coming Wednesday.

Reminder

Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.

This Weeks Walks (Wednesday 9 August)

Last weeks Pukerua Bay walks were cancelled again but we have not given up and so we are going to repeat these Pukerua Bay walks.  Therefore Pukerua Bay is again the base for our walks this coming Wednesday.  These are all old walks from 2018 and repeated one other time a couple of years ago.  They all include a short section of the beach.  We have had to alter the FF’s a little as one of the legs to a hill lookout is closed for lambing and calving.  Also we have talken a set of steps out of the PP’s as these are now part of a slip.  Low tide is at 9:10am so there is no problem with the part of the walk that is along the beach.   (One of the simple houses you can spot on the beach front was the subject of an episode of Grand Designs where it was built by the Architect himself with a bit of help from a neighbour who was builder. It is the simple house with two halves.)

PP’s: A  5.05km loop walk that is on tracks, footpaths and a short stretch of beach.  The access to the beach is via a sealed road.  You can see the walk here

SS’s: A 5.86km loop walk  that is also on tracks, footpaths and a short stretch of beach.  There are also some steps down to the beach.  You can see the walk here.

FF’s: A 7.85 km loop walk on roads, footpaths, tracks and beach.  It includes a Porirua City Council challenge which all FF’s should be able to beat.  You can see the walk here

Parking

Parking for all three groups is in Rawhiti Road in the area opposite the school.  Once you have entered Pukerua Bay turn left at the first oppurtunity (Teihana Road West) and the right into Rawhiti Road.

Coffee

We have told the Café in Palmers Plimmerton that a good size group of us will be arriving for coffee.

Website

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Enjoy your walks.
Russell Paterson.
