Friday “Drinkies” become Wednesday “Drinkies”

The last social get together for the year is this coming Wednesday Night (14th) for “Drinkies” starting at 5:00pm at Sprig & Fern, Tawa.  All are welcome.  Hopefully a good number of you can make it.

Last Weeks Walks

Berhampore was the setting for the three Wednesday walks.  Walks that had been planned for this area were cancelled in the past.  Just 3 PP’s took part, with 22 SS’s and 18 FF’s making a total of 43 walkers.  We have heard that the PP’s extended their walk a little but it was not intentional.  The SS’s are owed an apology.  What looked flat on the plan turned out to be a quite steep and long hill.  All walkers managed it well.  On an exceptionally fine Thursday Night 8 Thursday Night Explorers completed another Churton Park local walk and on Friday morning 10 Friday Walkers headed to Belmont Trig in fine weather and returned in heavy rain.

This Weeks Walks (Wednesday 14 December)

No hills this week as the three walks are in Petone and sneak into Lower Hutt.  They are new walks but they cover old walking territory.

PP’s: A 5.09km loop mostly along river banks.  A scenic walk! Slightly longer than usual but definitely flat and easy walking.  You can see the walk here.

SS’s: A 6.62km loop along the riverbanks of a bit of the Hutt River and a bit of Waiwhetu Stream. You can see the walk here.

FF’s: A 9.46km loop along the riverbanks of a bit of the Hutt River and a bit of Waiwhetu Stream but includes some of the streets of Lower Hutt as well.  You can see the walk here.

Parking

Parking for all three groups is in Marine Parade.  Head along Petone Esplanade which becomes Waione Street and then turn right at Kirkcaldy Street.  There is a turning bay that makes the turn into Kirkcaldy Street much easier. (The Gull Service Station is on the corner of Kirkcaldy Street.). Head along Kirkcaldy Street and then take a left into Marine Parade and park with the others.  We have parked in this area many times before.

Coffee

Coffee is at Columbus Coffee that is in Mitre 10 Mega, Petone.  They will have been told that a number of us will be coming.

Website

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Happy December Walking

Koha

Every week we leave a note about Koha in the newsletter.  We have no idea what private sharing arrangements are in place regarding getting rides but we trust that those who don’t regularly bring cars do make up for it in some small way, be it buying a coffee for the driver or by making some small cash donation.

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of December here.

Photos

Below are some photos from the week before last.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).
