Last Weeks Walks

A good number took on the quite steep hills and flatter paddock tracks of Battle Hill Farm.  This total of 52 walkers was made up of 9 PP’s, 25 SS’s and 18 FF’s.  About half stayed to enjoy a short picnic in the rural setting.  On Thursday some of the usual Thursday Night Explorers were off to the Stadium concert but this still left 5 walking around the local streets.  Come Friday 16 Friday Walkers completed a long walk in the Western Hills that surround Maungaraki.

This Weeks Walks

We usually carry out at least one walk in the Maungaraki area every year.  This is the week to do this with all three being based there.

PP’s: A 3.78km loop track around the streets that includes a reasonably gentle climb followed by a gentle down hill slope back to the cars.    You can see the walk here.

SS’s: A 4.25km loop taking in a climb on a bush track with the balance around the streets ending back at the cars.    You can see the walk here.

FF’s: A 6.41km loop heading down to nearly motorway level and then back up through streets and tracks returning to the cars.  It does include some climbs.    You can see the walk here.

Parking

There is a considerable amount of angle parking in Rowan Street which comes off Dowse Drive directly opposite the Maungaraki Shopping Centre. The exit to Maungaraki is clearly marked on a Motorway Exit sign on the Hutt Motorway.

Coffee

We have told Benedict’s Café that a good number of us will be calling in for a coffee.  Benedict’s Café can be found in the Maungaraki Shops.  You can readily walk there from your car park.

Website

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Koha

Every week we leave a note about Koha in the newsletter.  We have no idea what private sharing arrangements are in place regarding getting rides but we trust that those who don’t regularly bring cars do make up for it in some small way, be it buying a coffee for the driver or by making some small cash donation.

Photos

Below are some photos from the week before last.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).
