Last Weeks Walks

After a 6 year gap the “Poker Walk” was back and enjoyed by all that took part. After looking a little threatening overnight the weather played its part as well. Thanks to Paul A and Brian V for organising this event.  Congratulations to all winners.  I trust enough of you had an upbringing that allowed you to know a good poker hand from an average one.  39 walkers took part in the event, 5 Thursday night walkers had a decent evening for their walk around the streets of Churton Park and Johnsonville and 24 Friday walkers completed the Rimutaka Incline Walk.  We hope that the weather treats us as well this coming week.

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of February here.

Wednesday 2nd February 2022

Most will have finished all their holidaying and be back in Wellington ready to walk by now.  The walking committee have started February with one of our regular but popular walks that take in the Titahi Bay coastline.

In the coming months we will endeavour to create or find some new walks as well as repeating the more popular ones.  The parking does limit some of the areas we can explore but we will keep looking.  Meet at New World carpark for the usual briefing prompt at 9:00am or at the parking in Titahi Bay at 9:15am.

PP’s: A 5.71 km there and back walk.  Head out as far as walkers feel like and return.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s: A 7.65 km leg and loop.  Includes a bit of a climb with the rest of the walk relatively flat.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s: A 8.23 km loop.  There could be a deviation up to Pikarere Trig just to add some variety.  This will be decided during the walk.  (The track to the Trig has been mapped by one of our walkers. Very good views from the Trig.)  You can view the walk here.

Parking

Parking for the Titahi Bay walks is in our regular parking spot on the corner of Titahi Bay  Road and Onepoto Road.  (Opposite Onepoto Park)

Coffee

This will be at one of our regular coffee spots; this being Columbus Coffee in Mitre 10 Mega, Porirua.

Friday Night Drinkies

The first Friday Night Drinkies for the year will be Friday this week.

Happy Walking,
Russell Paterson

Cancellation

The normal cancellation before 8:00am will be sent by email if required.

Koha

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.

Laugh

I got myself a seniors’ GPS.  Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.
