Last Weeks Walks

All three Wednesday walks went ahead last week around the streets of Whitby.  A well attended outing for 57 walkers made up of 9 PP’s, 30 SS’s and 18 FF’s .  On Thursday evening there were 6 walkers accompanied by Red walking through Johnsonville however the wet weather caught up with us on Friday so the regular Friday walkers cancelled their walk.

Annual Dinner reminder

A short note to remind everyone that our 10th anniversary dinner will be held at The Pines on 29 July – further details will be announced shortly.

Away Walk 2024 - Tasmania

The proposal for the Away Walk location in 2024 is Tasmania.  We would like to form a planning group whose aim will be to draft an outline of the trip which includes dates, location(s), possible accommodation, ideas for walks and approximate costs.  The initial meeting of this planning group will be in September at 8 Dormar Place.  We would particularly value input from people who have experience in researching and leading walks, and those who know a little about Tasmania.  If you are keen to join this planning group please contact David Pegram David.Pegram.nz@gmail.com

Once the planning group has drafted an outline of the trip we will arrange an information meeting for everyone who might be interested in going on the trip. This will be later in the year, possibly in October.

This Weeks Walks (Wednesday 24 May)

We head to Karori this coming Wednesday.  Hopefully no traffic problems!  The walks are repeats of the last time we were in Karori but the SS’s has been reversed.  The FF’s has also been reversed and altered a little to make it safer with respect to traffic and lack of footpaths.  The PP’s remains unchanged.

PP’s: A 4.48km loop taking in walkways and footpaths.  There is nothing too steep.    You can see the walk here.

SS’s: A 6.35km loop walk also on a mixture of walkways and footpaths including some not so steep hills.  You can see the walk here.

FF’s: A 7.41km loop taking in quite a lot of Karori and of course there will be a few hills.  You can see the walk here.

Parking

Samuel Parnell Road runs between Parkvale Road and Chamberlain Road.  If you believe the aerial photographs there are some 40 carparks in this road.  So Samuel Parnell Road (and nearby streets if needed) is the parking for these walks.  Turn right off Karori Road into Parkvale Road and then 1st left into Samuel Parnell Road.

Coffee

Park Café in Karori Park is the venue for coffee.  It is quite a large venue.  We will let them know that a group of us will be coming there.  There is always Simmer back at Churton Park as well.

Website

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Enjoy your walks.
Brian Vincent.
