Convenor’s Comment

Last Weeks Walks

For the walks around the Tinakori Hills  etc there were 16 PP’s 28 SS’s and 14 FF’s making a total of 58 walkers.  It seems from comments that the SS’s walk was a challenge and perhaps not suitable for that group.  We finally got around to checking it this Sunday morning and agreed that it probably was suitable for the FF’s but perhaps not for the SS’s.  A lesson learnt and we hope that no one was put off walking.  (The odd challenge is always good in life.)

On Thursday night the Thursday Night Crawlers still managed a group of 6 walkers for their jaunt around the local area even with the absence of the organisers and on Friday there were 18 Friday Walkers who circumnavigated the Porirua Inlet.  So another week where the weather treated us to ideal walking conditions.

Koha

Every week we leave a note about Koha in the newsletter.  We have no idea what private sharing arrangements are in place regarding getting rides but we trust that those who don’t regularly bring cars do make up for it in some small way, be it buying a coffee for the driver or by making some small cash donation.

Photos

Here are some photos from last week.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).

This week's walks

A couple of years ago we carried out some walks in the Woodridge area of the general Newlands area.  Since that time Woodridge has grown significantly; so this weeks walks have been designed to enable us all to have a nosey at the suburb whilst still getting our exercise.

PP’s: A 3.71km walk with a loop around the streets before a return to the cars.  It could be cut short if required.  All on footpaths.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s: A 5.20km figure eight that includes a not too long up hill track with steps (good footing) and then a loop around the streets and another loop nearby and a return back to the cars.  This walk can also be cut short if required.  The majority of the walk is on footpaths.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s: A 6.72km loop walk initialling within the bush and then onto streets to another bush track and then around some Woodridge Streets and then a return to the cars.  You can view the walk here.

Parking:

Parking for all three groups is along the length of Ladbrooke Drive starting near the intersection with Horokiwi Road West.  There are no houses on one side of Ladbrooke Drive so there is plenty of room and we should be able to park in a reasonably confined area.

Coffee

This will be back at Simmer. We will have told Simmer that a group of us will be returning for Coffee. You are welcome to try other Cafés on your way home if you so wish.

Cancellation

If required will be by email at 7:30am.

Happy May Walking

Koha

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.

Laugh

You're not fat, you're just... easier to see.
