Churton Park Community Walkers

Newsletter 4th February 2024

Last week’s walks:

Last Wednesday 48 walkers went across the city to walk around a section of the South Coast.  There were 23 Fast Footers, 19 Steady Steppers and 6 Pleasure Pacers.   On Thursday 7 walkers completed their walk around Crofton Downs and Ngaio.  The two Friday groups (14 and 5) went out to Pencarrow to undertake walks around the lakes and surrounding area.

Wednesday walkers – Important notice.

In recent times there has been a gradual change to meeting up for our Wednesday walks.  We now have more members who find it convenient to go straight to the nominated walk start point. There are a few who still arrange transport by meeting at the Churton Park Village carpark at 9.00am.  As a trial, over the next two months we propose nominating the start time for each walk from the walk's starting point. This will factor in the estimated travel time for those who need to arrange transport from Churton Park at 9am. Consequently those requiring lifts and those offering lifts should either continue to meet amongst themselves at 9am or make arrangements in advance by swapping telephone numbers. To ensure that everyone has the opportunity to make any arrangements it is proposed that we commence advising the start time for each walk from 21 FebruaryWe would be pleased to receive any comments on this approach.

Convenor.

Reminder

Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.

This Week's Walks (Wednesday 7 February)

Walk Details:  Back nearer home this week with all three walks starting at our usual point in Khandallah.
(Please refer to Brian's report above - for those who wish to meet at Churton Park Village, you can continue to do so for walks on February 7th & 14th.)

PP’s:  A 3.97km loop that uses the footpaths of the Khandallah Streets.  Some minor inclines, but generally fairly flat walking tracks and footpaths; overall a flat walk. You can see the walk here.

SS’s:  A 5.24km loop which does include minor hills.  On footpaths and tracks.  You can see the walk here.

FF’s: A 6.35km loop walk on tracks and footpaths. You can see the walk in either NZMapometer (here) or on PlotaRoute (here).

Parking: Parking for all three groups is in the Nairnville Park carpark and the surrounding streets.

Coffee: Nothing booked but there are quite a few options nearby and on the way home and, of course,  Simmer back in Churton Park.   Each group or sub-group can make their own arrangements.

Enjoy your walk.

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the Home Page.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible, but definitely before 8:00am.

Friday walkers headed out to Pencarrow Head on a very blustery day.  Many thanks to Brian Alderson for organising access and planning a great walk which included Lakes Kohangapiripiri and Kohangatera.

No replies to Editor's request for captions for last week's photo.  Come on CPCW members - you get out on all these walks and that shows you are not an apathetic bunch!  You are keen to exercise your bodies, so I have  included the photo once again (see below).
This time I urge you to exercise your brains and email me a pithy caption.
