Walk Details for Wednesday 9th July 2025

This Week's Walks:   Our venture into Brooklyn last Wednesday went quite smoothly so, as it is still school holidays, we will be adventurous again.  We will head further into Wellington with the walks for this coming Wednesday being in Maupuia (a little bit of Miramar as well) and they are all new walks.  Maupuia is the area below the old Mt Crawford Prison - on the western ridge above Miramar. The walks avoid the relatively steep network of, perhaps, slippery tracks that are in this area and keep to roads and walkways.  The parking for the SSs and the PPs is in the same area; parking for the FFs is in a nearby area.  We will be back in our comfortable, local suburbs the week after this walk.  All walks will start at 9:20am from the designated starting points.

PPs:  A 2.28km loop walk on the streets of Miramar, but not extending into Maupuia.  You can see the walk here.  The walk could be extended, if required, by continuing down Miramar North Road until it meets Park Road and then continuing back up Park Road.

PP Parking:   Near the entrance to Farrington Park which is at the point where Miramar North Road meets Weka Street.

SSs:  A 5.14km loop walk on the streets - mainly Maupuia, but also some in Miramar.  It takes in the old Prison Road that is now shown on maps as a track and includes the odd hill.   You can see the walk here.

SS Parking:  Near the entrance to Farrington Park which is at the point where Miramar North Road meets Weka Street.

FFs:   A 6.63km loop taking in streets and tracks of Maupuia and a bit of Miramar and including the old Prison Road.  Of course it includes some hills.   You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.

FF Parking:  Parking is in Nevay Road past the last of the houses, but well before the prison.

Coffee:  This is walkers' own choice.  Walkers could organise a small group and head to a café on the way home or just return to Simmer and Thyme.

Happy walking.

CPCW PHOTOS

The first Wednesday of July was fine, the traffic was reasonably obliging and a good number of walkers headed into the city and up to Brooklyn for some new walks.  Feedback suggests that these were very well received.  Many walkers commented about the opportunity to visit the Brooklyn War Memorial which is sited strategically above the city.

Photos of the SSs this week have been provided by Rowena Rowe and John Holloway:

Photos of the FFs were provided by Clint Davis and Hue Ng:

Friday's walk was cancelled for the second week running, but a group of 10 hardy souls - and Red - decided to venture forth come what may.  And there were a couple of episodes of heavy rain - most notably on the homeward straight towards the café.  The photo was provided by Bill Gaudie;

A good group turned out for Friday drinks at the Johnsonville Club and thanks go to Rowena Rowe for capturing a happy group, many of whom supplemented their drinks with some food.  Not too sure that the food would get a tick from the NZ Heart Foundation, but I am assuming that since much of the food visible in the photos appears brown - and we know that the colour brown represents earthy, natural things - then obviously everyone was actually eating health food.  Good on you!!

Thank you to Alison Lavin for providing this week's laugh.  It is good to see that Melania's hands have not been stained by the orange dye she applies to her husband's skin.
