Churton Park Community Walkers
Newsletter 11th May 2025
Last week:
The Wednesday walks this week were in Karori. There was a good number of walkers with 12 PPs, 28 SSs and 26 FFs. Brian Alderson led 7 walkers on Thursday evening for a 5.5km walk around Newlands. Unfortunately, the Friday walk over Tinakori Hill fell victim to the rain.

Walk Details for Wednesday 14th May:
This Week's Walks: A visit to Petone for this week's walks. No hills to complain about on these walks! The walks are all new, but take in the areas we have covered in the past. The walks are to start at 9:20am from the designated starting point.
PPs: A 4.70km loop walk. Covers some local Petone streets and walkways alongside both a stream and the coast. You can see the walk here. All good surfaces.
SSs: A 6.55km loop walk. The walk is up the right bank of the Hutt River and back by some local Petone Streets. You can see the walk here. All good surfaces.
FFs: A 7.78km loop walk. A walk on good surfaces; up the side of the Hutt River and back down the side of Waiwhetu Stream. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.
Parking: Parking for all three groups is the usual spot on Marine Parade. We have to spread out a bit, but there always seems to be enough room for us. Turn right off The Esplanade/ Waione Street into Kirkcaldy Street and then left into Marine Parade.
Coffee: We will inform Columbus Coffee at Mitre 10 Mega, Petone, that a number of us will be turning up for a coffee and perhaps a snack.
Happy walking.

Wednesday's walkers ventured out and about around Karori. A pleasant autumn morning brought out a large group of walkers in all three groups.
Paul Alpe captured these photos of the groups together prior to setting out and commented - "David addressing the multitude prior to walk ... and the multitude listening". (Ed - not sure whether David had the 5 loaves and 2 fishes waiting in his car?)

Thanks to Mike Drain and Rosemary Mackintosh for these photos of the PPs:

Thank you to Rowena Rowe for this photo of the SSs:

And Bill Gaudie captured an intersection of SSs and FFs (pun intended!). The car intruding into the photo of the FFs may have been nicked from where our treasurer had parked it, when running late - but he doesn't seem unduly concerned in the photo, so perhaps not...

Our Thursday team headed out around Newlands and they were photographed by Brian Alderson. Looks like they were resting near the Newlands shopping centre.

For the second Friday in a row, walkers were left at a loss when the walk was cancelled due to inclement weather. One hates to think of the mischief in which those idle hands dabbled - your editor has photographic evidence that our CPCW convenor got totally pickled...
