Churton Park Community Walkers
Newsletter 22nd June 2025
Last week:
After two consecutive weeks of cancelled walks it was good to see the sun on Wednesday this week with 73 walkers enjoying a sparkling winter's day at Titahi Bay. Apart from the weather, and the walking, the highlight of the morning was collecting an astounding $275.13 for the Wellington Free Ambulance. Thank you everyone who contributed to such an impressive amount.
The Thursday and Friday walks also went ahead - on Thursday around the streets of Johnsonville and on Friday along the streets of Newlands and Khandallah.

Walk Details for Wednesday 25th June 2025
This Week's Walks:
Khandallah this week, but the FFs and PPs do have to sneak into Ngaio for part of their walks - where Khandallah ends and Ngaio begins depends on which local you ask! The walks all take in some rises and a few steps. The three walks are all new, but use many streets etc that we have walked before. These walks will start at 9:20am from the designated starting point which is Nairnville Park carpark.
PPs: A 4.83km loop walk on streets, walkways and a few steps. There are a few rises that will raise the pulse rate, but nothing too challenging. Again, this walk can be readily shortened by walkers if they so decide. You can see the walk here.
SSs: A 6.19km loop walk on streets, walkways and a small bit of bush. Some climbs that are reasonably long, but not very steep. You can see the walk here.
FFs: A 7.09km loop walk on streets, tracks, walkways and quite a few sets of steps. Includes the Bridal Track. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.
Parking: Parking for all three groups is in the Nairnville Park carpark and surrounding streets - our usual parking for Khandallah walks.
Coffee: As there are no local coffee bars that can take our numbers we have not reserved anywhere. So coffee is walkers choice with Simmer and Thyme always a choice back at home.
Happy walking.

CPCW PHOTOS
At last... a Wednesday morning that dawned with a hefty dose of frost, a cloudless sky, no wind and NO RAIN!! Yes - Wednesday walking was on!! The weather brought out a large group of walkers across all groups to enjoy that great weather in the delights of Titahi Bay.
Our photos of the Wednesday walkers are courtesy of Mike Drain, Hue Ng, Alison Lavin and Rowena Rowe. Alison has titled her photo - "The Glamour Group". Not sure what that makes the other groups?

It was a small team of Thursday walkers this week. Thanks to Duncan McMillan for two photos of these stalwarts:

Manawatia a Matariki - for Friday walkers. A dastardly walk, led by Keith Thomas, through Johnsonville, Newlands and Khandallah and including the dreaded Rangiora Ave to Amritsar Street steps. There are supposed to be 473 in this flight of fancy (pun intended), which makes it the largest (numerically) in Wellington according to: Wellington Steps - Stalking the outdoor stairs of Wellington New Zealand. Photos of the early group were taken by Hue Ng and the later group by Keith Thomas. Keith has titled his second image "Fuel Stop?". I understand everyone made it back to the cars, so at least it wasn't a "Full Stop"!
