Churton Park Community Walkers

Newsletter 24th August 2025

Last week:

Well, there was little doubt about Wednesday's cancellation - and I received no complaints about the decision!  No TMO decisions required!   Thursday's keen bunch of 5, well rugged up against the cold southerly, journeyed out and about in Churton Park for 5.6km.  16 walkers trudged 12.6km and up many steps in the Colonial Knob/Rangituhi area on Friday with a very well deserved after-match function at The Borough in Tawa.  Forecast for this coming Wednesday looks good - fingers and toes crossed!

Walk Details for Wednesday 27th August 2025

This Week's Walks:   We have had to cancel two attempts to have our walk in Whitby.  We will try again in October.  This coming Wednesday we have planned for three walks based around using our Gold Cards (or Snapper for the younger brigade) on the Johnsonville line.  The details for the three separate groups are noted below.  The walks will start at 9:20am from the designated starting point.

PPs:  The walk is only 3.04km and takes the walkers from the Nairnville Park carpark (or nearby Lucknow Tce) to Crofton Station or the Chillax Café nearby.  The return journey by train to Simla Crescent Station will add another 1 km with the walk back to the cars.  You an increase the distance further by heading along Simla Crescent to Clark Street etc if you wish.  Check out the train timetable at Crofton Station and there may well be time for a coffee at Chillax Café before returning.  (Chillax Café is next to the Supermarket Entrance.). You can see the walk here.

SSs:  A 7.55km one way walk.  The same Nairnville Park carpark and the nearby streets for the parking and also for the start of the walk.  Then via local streets and through a couple of nearby suburbs and onwards until you get to the Wellington Railway Station.  The walk is a little longer than normal but is almost all downhill.  The Trax Bar at the station does serve a nice coffee (or other alternatives) and, at the time walkers are arriving, should not be too busy.  The train timetable can be checked at the station and the return trip to Simla Crescent station planned.  Then a little walk back to the cars.  You can see the walk here.

FFs:  An 8.15km one way walk from the parking in Chartwell Drive through the nearby suburbs and a few suburbs further afield; finally arriving at Wellington Station with a visit to the Trax Bar for a coffee.  Then a return train trip to Crofton Downs station and another little walk back to the cars. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.

Parking:  Parking for the PPs and the SSs is at Nairnville Park carpark and the nearby streets and for the FFs is along the frontage of Crofton Downs Primary School in Chartwell Drive.

Coffee:  Nothing has been organised for coffee, but all three walks arrive at a suitable place for a coffee.  Alternatively, you may choose to have coffee back near the parking or back at Churton Park.

Happy walking.
