Churton Park Community Walkers

Newsletter 11th February 2024

Last week’s walks.

We had an excellent turn-out of walkers for the Wednesday walks around Khandallah with 63 members participating!   On Thursday 6 walkers (plus Red) completed their walk around Churton Park with some drizzle occuring on their journey. The Friday group, numbering 18, went up to Kaitoke for their walk around Kaitoke and Pakuratahi Forest.

A reminder about last week’s notice for the Wednesday walkers.

As a trial, over the next two months we propose nominating the start time for each walk from the walk's starting point. This will factor in the estimated travel time for those who need to arrange transport from Churton Park at 9am. Consequently those requiring lifts and those offering lifts should either continue to meet amongst themselves at 9am or make arrangements in advance by swapping telephone numbers. To ensure that everyone has the opportunity to make any arrangements it is proposed that we commence advising the start time for each walk from 21 February.  We would be pleased to receive any comments on this approach.

Convenor.

Reminder

Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.

This Week's Walks (Wednesday 14 February)

The walks are all in the Mana/Paremata area so there should not be any traffic problems.

PP’s:  A 3.00km loop that is dead flat.  It takes in a bit of coast, a bit of park and a bit of street.  You can see the walk here.

SS’s:  A 5.86km Paremata loop which does includes a couple of hills with the rest fairly flat.  All on footpaths and tracks.  You can see the walk here.

FF’s: A 6.54km loop walk on tracks and footpaths. Includes hills.  You can see the walk in NZMapometer here and on PlotaRoute here.

Parking: Parking for all three groups is in the Ngati Toa Domain using the parking area accessed from Pascoe Avenue.  (Turn left into Pascoe Avenue from Mana Esplanade. The parking is on the right about 100m ahead once you are over the railway line.)

Coffee: Picnic!  Picnic!  It is planned to have a picnic under the trees that surround the carpark.  Bring a chair or rug and thermos etc.  If the weather is unsuitable then there are cafés on the way home.

Enjoy your walk.

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the Home Page.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible, but definitely before 8:00am.
